NISM exams are computer-based. You book online, then take the test on a computer at an authorised test centre, and the result usually appears on screen soon after you finish.

So it’s “online” in the sense that the questions appear on a computer, but it is not something you sit for at home in the normal format. You go to a test centre, show your ID and take the exam in a supervised hall. Check the NISM portal for the current mode options for your module, since arrangements can be updated.

What this means for preparation:

  • Practise mock tests on a screen, not just on paper. Reading long options questions on a monitor feels different.
  • Learn to use the mark-for-review feature to skip tough questions and return later.
  • Keep an eye on the timer; for Series VIII, you have 120 minutes for 100 questions.

A common mistake: students practise only by reading the workbook and never attempt a full timed mock. On exam day, they run short of time on calculation-based questions about payoffs and margins.

Our NISM exam preparation course includes classroom teaching plus practice on exam-style questions, at our Dadar and Thane branches. A free demo lecture is available if you want to see how the sessions run.
